IK Multimedia has just dropped GrooveMaker, a new loop-based music production app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. For more information, check out Synthtopia.

Les Paul (June 9, 1915 – August 13, 2009)
Rest in peace to Les Paul, one of the most important figures in not only the recording industry, but music as a whole.
He is best known as a pioneer of the solid body electric guitar. Gibson Guitar Corporation even went so far as to develop a guitar with him that shared his namesake. Less publicized are his innovations in recording technology including overdubbing, delay effects, phasing effects, and multi-track recording.
Make 8-bit video game music with your iPhone with the NESynth. Use either keyboards, the American Nintento controller, or Japanese Famicom controller to create music.

Intua's Beatmaker for the iPhone is the most sophisticated music app available, and probably one of the best apps period.
The all-in-one mobile audio workstation has a virtual MPC, step sequencer, pattern sequencer, effects, recorder, and wave editor.

The Vestax VCM-600 is probably the best new Ableton Live controller in terms of build quality--solid as a rock. But not sure if it can touch the Akai APC40 in terms of overall integration.
Check out an in-depth review of the new mixer here.

Video from 1983 of Herbie Hancock & Quincy Jones in the studio playing with one of the earlest computer based instruments, the Fairlight CMI. Herbie absolutely kills it.
Witness the birth of electronic music.

D16 Group is a plug-in developer based in Poland. Their GUI designers are on point, making some of the most realistic looking virtual instruments and effect boxes.
Haven't ever used any of these, as me and most all the folks are Pro Tools guys (D16 plugs are all VST & AU), but I might have to try one of these out with Ableton Live.

So I was on the iZotope website today looking up info on Spectron, when I saw this new iDrum: Major Lazer remix edition for the iPhone. (The iPhone version of iDrum is a beast, btw.)
iDrum: Major Lazer lets you instantly remix elements from the new album, Guns Don’t Kill People … Lazers Do, produced by dance floor innovators Diplo and Switch along with lazer-armed commando Major Lazer.
Read more about it at the iTunes store.

Retro Recorder is a new iPhone recording app by McDSP, one of the leading plug-in developers in the digital audio realm.

The Akai Remix 16 is a phrase sampler released in 1996. The relatively obscure--or just unpopular--groove box was discontinued just a few years after its release, but still pops up every now and then on eBay and craigslist.

This one came out a while ago, but we had to get a late pass just on the strength of the GUI. Softube's FET Compressor has one of the nicest looking interfaces ever on a plug-in.
Not sure why they went with a 70's hi-fi equipment look, but it looks dope either way. On top of that, the reviews say it sounds great. It is, after all, modeled after the legendary UREI 1176--the original 1960's version.
