Our Slept On series of posts highlight folks/albums/songs we feel don't get enough credit--obviously. Some of the posts might feature folks/albums/songs that get plenty of respect in certain circles, but on the grand scale of things, they deserve more recognition. DJ Toomp falls in this category.

Dru Down - Breezy (Ft. The Luniz) [Prod. by Bosko]
Here's a slept on Dru Down track off his 3rd album (2nd major label release on Relativity) Can You Feel Me (1996) that really exemplifies the diversity of the Bay Area sound.
The Oakland OG had two hit singles in Pimp Of The Year (on his previous album) and Can You Feel Me, but this has always been a sleeper cut in his catalog. Produced by Bosko, who himself has left a solid imprint in Bay Area hip-hop, Breezy is a certified Slept On.
(Side note: Rappers these days wanna talk about swag? Dru Down is the one of the originators of swag. Bay Area rap brought game to hip-hop.)
When people talk about San Francisco hip-hop, they need to mention Conceit. Period.
For years he's rocked shows, won battles, and put out way too few releases. Nonetheless, the Scohican is an emcee's emcee. And someday, he might actually finish that EP with Al Jieh.
The B.U.M.S. (Brothas Unda Madness) was a mid-90's rap duo out of Oakland. There's a lot of Bay Area hip-hop from that era that gets overlooked these days for whatever reason, but best believe the Bay goes way beyond hyphy.
The group was short lived, but rappers Evocalist & D.Wyze had buzz locally and nationally, thanks in large part to their deal with Priority Records and support from The Wake Up Show (another Bay Area birthed institution for those of you who have been living under a rock).
Here's the video for Take A Look Around (prod. by Fredwreck) off of their 1995 album, Lyfe 'N' Tyme.
...and check out the video for Elevation after the jump, produced by Oakland Fader Joe Quixx, who did most of the album. Cameos galore in both videos.
While often overlooked by hip-hop heads outside of the West Coast, Compton's King Tee is undoubtedly one of the most pioneering emcees of his generation. Having founded the Likwit Crew, King Tee helped birth the careers of The Alkaholiks, Xzibit, Phil Da Agony, Lootpack, Defari, Montage One, and countless other LA acts.

The Homegrown EP - Mixed Practice (1995)
Mixed Practice was a group (emcees Prop & Flex, producer Eclipse) that recorded & performed in the Bay Area underground circuit from around 1993 - 1996, and then broke up. They left little behind...but CBRAP posted a dope piece telling the group's story as a launch piece for their new series BAY AREA RAP TAPES.
If you were a fan of the 90s underground Bay Area rap scene that produced acts like Hieroglyphics, Living Legends, Saafir, Bored Stiff, Cali Agents, etc., then this is for you. (Not to mention local labels like ABB Records and Stones Throw.)

While Cali Agents (Planet Asia & Rasco) are widely recognized as one of the main acts that helped define and shape the indie hip-hop movement of the late 90s and early 2000s, they are still way too slept on in the grand scale of things.
More after the jump.

Encore's Layover LP was one of the most slept on albums to come out of the Bay in the early-mid 2000's.
The Milpitas emcee's project came out in 2004 on Hieroglyphics, with the majority of the production handled by Jake One and Vitamin D.

On our latest edition of Slept On: a Hiero x Sick Wid It collabo.
Casual (aka Smash Rockwell) and E-40 (aka Mr. Flamboyant) teamed up on this Jake One heater a few years back.

We figured we should start up a series of posts on music and artists that are slept on. With the blogs becoming increasingly saturated with the same major label backed content, we thought we'd post up some stuff that's come out in recent years that has flown under the radar.
We're kickin' it off for the beat fiends with Sid Roams...more info after the jump!
